Wellington International Students' Association (WISA) is poised for a successful year in 2023, under the leadership of Aarnav Tonpay, a Wellington College Super Six leader. Aarnav will be joined by a dynamic team of Year 12 and 13 students, united by their dedication in assisting and empowering new international students while fostering a vibrant atmosphere of cultural exchange in Wellington.

After the border reopened, WISA hosted an orientation day to welcome over 140 students from 14 schools and 8 countries with visits to museums and sightseeing tours. In July, WISA responded to the racial tensions that arose during the pandemic by organizing a cross-cultural fundraiser, which featured performances by Asian and Polynesian groups. Through these initiatives, WISA has made significant strides towards achieving its goal of promoting racial unity and facilitating cultural exchange between international students and New Zealanders.
WISA co-hosted a multicultural show to celebrate cultural diversity, featuring performances like Kapa Haka and Chinese Lion Dancing.
After two years of border closure, WISA welcomed over 140 students from 8 countries and 14 schools with museum and sightseeing tours.
WISA organised its second Bowling Night so students from all over the city could enjoy a fun night out with friends and compete for prizes.
The WISA committee volunteered at the Blue Dragon Book fair and helped with categorising donated books and recycling card boxes.
We met in Waitangi Park for a shared picnic, volleyball and frisbee games, followed by arcade games and lasertag at Laserforce Wellington.
WISA run a food stall at Runathon, which raises funds various charities. We sold over 250 dumplings & samosas and raised $200 NZD.
WISA had a mixed year in 2021. The school year started with a Sports day at Wellington College, where the 2021 executive was selected. The new executive met with Education NZ representatives to discuss international students' experiences and attended a validation workshop for the National Ambassador program by Wellington NZ. WISA proceeded to organised a series of socialising events including a bowling night, a roller skating night, and a movie night. WISA finished the year by successfully launching its first merchandise line.
We collaborated with Interact Club to raise funds for Blue Dragon Children's Foundation. 60 students joined us for the movie Shang Chi.
Over 100 students joined us at Wellington College for the movie Weathering with You, Domino's Pizza, and cup-sized popcorn.
Over 60 students attended our roller skating event filled with adrenalined-fuelled games like roller skate hockey, and relay race.
We organised a "bowling league" and randomised 40+ students from all over Wellington into teams and compete. We left no pin standing!
After football matches, tug of war, and hot dogs for afternoon tea, the WISA 2021 election took place, where all candidates gave their speeches.
WISA started the year with a successful movie night that had a "full house" of international students attending, including one who travelled all the way from Whanganui! The second event was a shared picnic and laser force activity, followed by a Korean BBQ buffet held in the same week. In August, we had a bowling event that brought everyone together for a fun night out. In October, we organized a sports day at Wellington College. The year ended with WISA teaming up with the Interact club for a quiz night fundraiser.
We collaborated with Interact Club for a night filled with trivia questions, pizza, and Ukelele performances to raise funds for a Vietnam charity.
A sports day consists of hot dogs, tug of war, ball sports, the "eagle catches a chick" game, an esports smash tournament, and heaps of fun.
From international to domestic students, amateur to pro bowlers, everyone has enjoyed a fun night out and met some new friends.
